There are many different types of storm drainage systems. You may find guttering, pipelining, or even the storm drainage units that run beneath streets and into the ditches. Each of these is unique in that they are often in awkward places and more challenging to repair.

But even with those challenges, you CAN make repairs. You just need a professional crew that understands how to make it work without causing you a lot of issues along the way. Pipe lining and CIPP are the most feasible options in this scenario.

Common Storm Drainage Repairs

There are different types of repairs when it comes to storm drains. The challenge is that these are often left alone until they fail. In most cases, the repairs are in places like ditch drains or commercial property drains. A pipeline system that runs beneath the road or a building is much harder to access.

Because of this, you may not even know it is in need of repairs until you have bigger problems. Concrete drains tend to crack over time and could eventually collapse. Corrugated materials will generally rust and corrode. Regardless of the material, there are weaknesses. Those weaknesses allow in things like debris that can then clog or harm the drain system.

First comes the weakness of the pipelining system with things like sand, debris, soil erosion, sinkholes, and settling. If the drainage system collapses or fails, this could then have a negative impact on the road or building above the system.

That’s why it is so important to have them inspected and repaired before you run into bigger issues.

Repairing Storm Drain Systems

So how can repairs be made to these infrastructures? The simple answer is CIPP. With cured-in-place piping, a protective slip liner can be placed inside even the most challenging drain systems to help prevent collapse or to make repairs to existing issues. CIPP can even be used as a preventative measure to add a protective layer and skip the cracking and other destruction of the pipelines that happen naturally.

CIPP can be used even for large-diameter pipes, like storm drain systems. The lining tube is placed into the pipes using either a robot or other specialized equipment. It then just needs time to cure so the pipes can get back to work and let the water flow through without the side effects of disrepair.

CIPP typically lasts 50 years or more, making it one of the most effective options for this type of scenario. Your other options typically involve extensive excavation, long periods of downtime, and expensive repairs or replacement. CIPP makes it so much simpler.
