Is CIPP Toxic?

cipp process

The toxicity of the CIPP process is frequently under debate. For starters, it is currently one of the most common alternatives to trench pipe repair. This means you will see residential, municipal, commercial, and even industrial properties using CIPP.

Trench pipe repair has fallen out of favor for two main reasons – cost and destruction. Property owners have found that trenching also causes potential long-term damage, leading to repetitive occasions of repair. These downsides form some of the biggest arguments for the spread of cured-in-place pipe repair in the US.

Read on as we explore CIPP, how it works, and whether the CIPP process is toxic to humans and the environment.

What Is CIPP?

CIPP is a modern pipe solution that allows professionals to restore pipelines without trenching. Unlike trenching, CIPP experts will only need a small utility hole to help them access the damaged line.

To start the process, experts pass a video camera through the access hole to allow them to assess the situation, determine the cause, and settle on a solution. Then, they pull or push a flexible epoxy line into the old pipe and inflate it with water or air pressure. The air pressure expands the epoxy and coats it against the old pipe’s inner walls.

After setting the epoxy, experts then use UV light or heat to harden the epoxy liner in place, creating a pipe within the old pipe. By now, experts have created a seamless and jointless liner that seals out cracks and leaks in the existing pipe.

Is the CIPP Process Toxic?

CIPP, like any chemical process, can contain potentially harmful substances. However, the success and safety of the procedure depend on the contractor’s expertise. For instance, certified CIPP technicians undergo strict and rigorous training to ensure the safety of humans, animals, and the environment.

For this reason, it is important to choose your contractor with care. At Advanced Pipe Repair, our expert team is handpicked and certified to deliver the safest pipeline solutions to our customers.
